Even the most confident, polished, and put together people in the world have their down moments (I mean, Emma Watson has to have a bad day every once in a while, right?). No matter how hard to we try to stay organized and on top of things and maintain good spirits, we will always be faced with challenges, obstacles, and difficult moments. Maybe you just got back a defeating exam grade. Maybe work has you feeling discouraged and overwhelmed. Or maybe your bedroom is looking extra blah in comparison to the fabulous summer getaways you’re seeing on Instagram. Whatever the cause, we all feel down on ourselves from time to time, which is perfectly natural. However, I refuse to feel down in the dumps for too long, so I like to take matters into my own hands 😉
I asked some of the coolest, smartest, most successful, and confident women I know to share some of their secrets for gaining an instant confidence-boost. Whether you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed or are really facing a trying day, I hope some of these tips with help to brighten your spirits and make you realize how amazing you are! I know I plan to screen shot this post and pull it out whenever I need a boost.

Whenever I’m having a bad day, I put on heels & lipstick. It doesn’t matter where I’m going because I’m dressing up regardless. I know the natural inclination is to wear something comfortable, throw your hair up in a bun and forget about it, but dressing up instantly boosts my mood (and wearing heels makes me feel fierce as hell).

When I need a confidence boost, I’ll turn on my headspace app and meditate for ten minutes. Taking time to relax and reflect always boosts my mood!

For me, confidence comes when I’m feeling happy. A never-fail way to start my day feeling happy is to to make a pot of coffee and blast music while I ready (along with some awful dancing and hairbrush-singing in the mirror – obvi!). Unfortunately, not all days start off that way. So whenever I’m in need of a mid-day confidence boost, I always keep a tube of YSL red lipstick + my favorite sunglasses in my purse. A fierce bold lip is an instant confidence boost for me. It sounds superficial, but it totally works. I swear!

When I’m having a hard day, feeling blah or unmotivated, I walk away from my computer, phone or anything I’m working on and take 5 minutes to go over my personal/career goals, breathe, and think about why I’m doing this in the first place. Working in the fashion and media industries are fast-paced and can be stressful, so I have to take time to myself every now and then, and step away from work in order to get back on track and feel refreshed.

When I need a pick me up, my first stop to feeling fabulous is makeup. I used to work for MAC, so it’s engrained in me that a good mascara and a fun lip can brighten up the most blahhh days. I feel just as confident without a stitch of it on, but when I need to bust out my Sasha Fierce, makeup always seems to motivate me to change out of leggings, dress up & walk tall! I don’t wear makeup to impress anyone…I wear it for ME.

My number one tip for an instant confidence boost is to sweat it out! Working out has always been my go-to way to feel empowered. Exercise releases endorphins, which trigger a positive feeling in your body, boosts your mood, and majorly ups your confidence. Finishing out an extra set of squat jumps or reaching a long term fitness goal is the best way to feel empowered! As a personal trainer, I love seeing my clients show this instant boost of confidence after they finish a challenge. I think exercise is a great way for everyone to get that instant “I can do anything” feeling.
